Our Divine Family concert was so beautiful. Countless miracles came together to make this event special and spiritually uplifting. One of my favorites was the sun coming out after days of stormy gloomy weather. It was literally a torrential downpour driving over to the concert venue- I was worried we’d have to change the venue. But as the concert began, the clouds began to part and during the Ave Maria dance, the warm sun shone down upon the lovely dancer and it felt like heaven was smiling.

Every performer at this concert was wonderful. @julie4reel and @augustine.music , you brought us to tears with your beautiful performances. The sound was amazing (thanks Alex!). There was an impromptu dance by an angelic child who brought a gold blanket and even more beauty to the music. And @laura.crofts.cope and her husband opening the evening together, side by side, was powerful. There were many beautiful moments and everyone used their gifts to make this evening unforgettable.

Thank you to all who came, supported us, and/or prayed for us!

Choreographer Statement

Telling stories has always been a driving force in my choreography.  I was inspired to research the life of Eliza R. Snow, and in doing so felt the need to tell her story in a way that could be embraced by people from all walks of life.

Through her willingness to live her life in a way that aligned with the gospel, she was able to receive revelation that would transform what we know about Heavenly Father and Heavenly Mother in her poem originally titled, “Invocation, on the Eternal Father and Mother”.  Her vision of our Heavenly Parents taught us eternal truths about heaven and earth; parent and child; mother and father. Her example to live the gospel and to serve inspires me to do better every day.

This work is an abstract narrative describing moments in the life of Eliza R. Snow.  The dancers represent the inspiration she received through prayer, playing the part of her “paper” as she journals and writes the inspired words.  The piece starts with a poem Eliza wrote after the Prophet Joseph Smith was murdered.   The movement continues to develop through levels of retrospect and intensity as Eliza begins to understand her vision and inspiration that we have a Heavenly Mother.  Complex special patterns, rhythms, and partnering are explored to express the different levels of understanding Eliza went through.
